Below are several portions of the Seattle Actuarial Club By-Laws.
Purpose:
The Seattle Actuarial Club has as its purpose to encourage excellence in the actuarial and related matters in the Pacific Northwest by:
1) Stimulating the thinking of its members through an exchange of ideas and information.
2) Encouraging formal and informal training and education.
3) Informing the public about the role of the actuary, and advising interested students about the
qualifications needed and the opportunities available within the actuarial profession.
4) Building a close rapport between members of the actuarial profession in the Pacific Northwest.
Membership:
General Members - Duly elected members other than
Honorary Members - Duly elected persons of such outstanding accomplishments in actuarial
science and insurance as are deemed worthy of this honor and former general members who are
retired and not paying dues.
Any person shall be eligible for consideration as a member of the club who is an Enrolled Actuary
or a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, the Society of Actuaries, or the Casualty
Actuarial Society.
Proposals for membership or application for membership shall be made through the Secretary to the
Membership Nominating Committee. The Committee shall approve prospective members. The
names shall be distributed with the meeting notices and they shall be introduced to the club at the
first meeting following their acceptance.
A member may resign from the Club and the Board of Directors is empowered to accept such
resignation.
Upon complaint of conduct of any member which is likely to reflect unfavorably upon the Club, such
member may be expelled by a vote of the Board of Directors with no more than one Director
dissenting, but any member complained of shall have the right to be heard in this own behalf.
Officers:
President - The president shall preside at all meetings of the Club and shall be an ex officio member of
all committees. He shall preside at all meetings of the Board of Directors and shall perform all such
duties as are pertinent to the office of President and properly require of him.
Vice President - In the absence of the President, he shall excercise all of the functions of the
President, and shall be vested with all his powers. He shall also be Chairman of the Program
Committee.
Secretary - The Secretary shall have charge of all papers and shall keep such records and make such
reports and perform such duties as are pertinent to that office and properly required of him by the
organization.
Treasurer - The Treasurer shall have charge of the funds of the Club and shall conduct its banking
business and see that accounts are properly rendered. Checks drawn shall be signed by either the
President or the Treasurer and shall be counter-signed by another officer.
Dues:
Dues in an amount determined by the Board of Directors with the concurrence of the Club are payable by each general member in April of each year. The payment of dues is a condition of general membership. Honorary members are not required to pay dues.
